This happened after Christianity broke off from Messianism/ Natsarim a sect of Jews and Gentiles worshipping together. Yeshua(Jesus) the meshiach (messiah=christ) was understood prior to this. But yes I except that Christianity did incorporate many other worldviews practices inorder to divide from its origin. Christmas instead of Hanukkah , easter instead of passover , sunday instead of sabbath, Greek worldview abstract subjective thought over Hebrew concrete action integrity.
I believe the "yule" pagan celebrations go back thousands of years. Likely yule was the same meaning as jolly because around the end of December was when they could notice the sun coming back and were pretty happy about that. Before they understood the solar system they just thought the elves, gnomes, etc. brought back the sun. The Greeks and Romans probably rebranded these celebrations just like the Christians did.
