Like I said, France declared war on Germany first. In fact, French had already sacked several German cities between WW1 and WW2, but Hitler never seeked retaliation until the official declaration.
After the war began, it took him less than a month to march his army to Paris and force French to surrender and become a temporary German colony. Despite that, French people were treated well by Nazis, and majority of the population was fine with the occupation.

I used to have the same political opinion as you just a year ago, and had an argument with the exact same dude as myself right now.
We can agree on that.
Thing is, Hitler already figured it all out long ago, that's the reason they despise him. He saw Weimar Germany first hand and was one of the few people at the time to openly oppose communism.
No historical figure, no matter how terrible or murderous, is hated more than Adolf.
Stalin and Mao killed several times more people (even if you blame holocaust and all WW2 casualties on Hitler), yet you can openly support them in any country besides Poland.
Stalin was a special kind of murderous psychotic freak who cared about nobody but himself. He murdered all his friends to become the "glorious leader", let his son die in a POW camp just to spite Hitler, ordered his soldiers to rape women in occupied territories and let his own men pillage everywhere they went, even inside Russian lands. He had ZERO redeemable qualities, every single piece of that man was a pure evil.
Yet the media often portrays him as neutral or even as "the good guy".
This is all you need to know about who controls this world and the information.
I don't want to sound like a r%dditor, but I need a source on that. Seems unlikely that he would promise not to invade them right as they declared war on him.
It's like me promising not to fight back a second after you punched me.
