I own two US patents.
Getting a provisional takes about three months.
Getting a full utility patent can take as much as two years.
Now, knowing this, all I can say is that shortly after the lockdowns the consumer market became flooded with a wide variety of masks.
Which can only mean that the products were patented loooong before this PLANdemic broke out.
