It seems to me that the reformers of the 1500s made a mistake by not aligning themselves with the Orthodox church. I think a lot of it was that they liked the thought of Christianity being a eurocentric religion. Luther, to his credit, was influenced by the large Jewish community in Germany. That seems to have had some results that are not well documented.
