This is such a big thing Ive seen over the years.
People simply dont know how to think logically. And many people cant take criticism or feedback. So they cant think, and they dont improve because they cant handle feedback. They take feedback as a personal attack and just ignore it.
- learn how to think from tv / movies
- no interest in serious self education
- many people think they know it all
- barely research subjects they claim to know a lot about
Society is really becoming heavily handicapped by these things.
If you wanted to know a lot about subject XYZ you'd need to read 2 or 3 books and watch several documentaries - at a minimum. That would be a good START. Most people do 10% of this, and think they know it all.
Oh and when you read 2 or 3 books on a subject, they need to be from a Subject Matter Expert - not just from some journalist.
Journalist write books all the time, and they are not experts.
My gf reads a lot of history books and says the ones written by journalist getting the most facts wrong.
(she's a democrat, so this isnt a she hates "fake news" thing)
My thought process has changed immensely since I stopped watching tv a few years ago
Also what is sad is that I’ve tried to converse with the people that are like what you described their refutations are . Oh we’re did you get that from , thats not what this doctor ,teacher, person in authority said, I don’t want to hear because this person or situation was bad so nothing else matters. What’s funny is even if I get them to except my point and they see their error they forget it within the same conversation.
Compare Xena Warrior Princess with Mr Robot.
Xena clearly outlines the heroes, villains, etc. The message is love.
Mr Robot obscures them, throws everything into a blender where you get incredibly flawed heroes and can't make sense of morals. It's more of a masturbation fest - take morphine, blast the limbic system into heaven, skip love, rinse and repeat.
You are spot-on.
