The gene sequence provided seems to target a "binding" protein used by the placenta and a sequence of DNA found in the human genome. It responds disproportionately well to nutritional supplements. The proposed remedies like masking seem to exacerbate the problems with whatever this thing really is.
Being that my friend (who is a former biomedical researcher with patents) had it with all the symptoms but never got tested, I think that probably rules out the swab option. Mosquitos? Maybe. Although in July it would have been a bit hot for them.
Either way, its transmission pattern is NOT via normal air transmission.
