Researchers generally have psychological blinkers on, that prevent them from venturing outside of Darwinian thinking on the topic of the antiquity of "modern humans.
The book "Forbidden Archaeology" by Michael Cremo and Richard Thompson is jammed full of Darwinian-evolutionary-theory-busting examples of archaeological finds that are memory-holed, either consciously or "sub-consciously".
One example:
in Portugal, geologist Carlos Ribeiro found stone tools, [exactly like those generally attributed to our early modern human ancestors and found in many places] in Miocene formations of about 20 million years old. He displayed them in the Museum of Geology in Lisbon with the 20 million years old tag.
But after he died his colleagues in the museum wrote new labels for them,
giving them far younger ages [simply believing he must have been mistaken).
Then the next generation of officials put the whole collection away.
