This is legit, I remember being taught this in the fourth grade in the early 1990s. We were told that the greenhouse effect caused global warming and the coastal cities would be underwater by 2000. We were told that there was a hole in the ozone layer that was getting bigger every year and we would get skin cancer and die if we played outside without SPF 15% sun tan lotion. In the mid 90s they changed the name from sun tan lotion to sun screen or sun block, the companies that made that stuff became very rich during this time.

I remember the movie Waterworld had the polar ice caps melting at the beginning as a main plot point. All the climate change bullshit is not new. They say this to every generation and tell them that they will die before they turn 30 to see if they help destroy society. They also promoted having less kids or no kids through every bit of pop culture.
