I heard and read Ray Dalio's take on this . His take which I fully support has two possible outcomes in case China attacks Taiwan.

US steps in and flexes muscle protecting Taiwan with whatever consequences this may bring on a global level.
US backs down allowing China to do what wants to do in the region with he consequence of US losing its currency reserve status because it will not be the superpower it used to be.
If China pulls the trigger so to say US must have a reaction (either option 1 or 2).
