He knew of course. He warned about this fraud in interview after interview prior to the election (see his long interview on Rush after the cancelled 2nd debate), and didn't do enough before hand. Yes, for example, they tried to get PA to comply with their own election laws, etc. but the courts in what is called "Trump Law" made special rulings against him (see the lower court cases on the wall, trannies in the military, and the Census for other examples). These "Trump Law" decisions had no precedent nor will they be applied to later presidents.
Look, this wasn't 4D chess on his part. Let's face it, while am hopeful about the 6th and Pence being solid as a rock, Trump failed here.
I think people way, way overestimate how much power the president actually has as well. Obama didn't get jack shit done his second term, especially after the midterms. Likewise, Trump ranted and raved, but he was fighting his own party and the Dems simultaneously.
If Trump pulls it off, unlikely, but possible, Pence will have ensured about 75 million people's loyalty. Also, if he stabs Trump in the back, he has no future in the GOP. Not to mention that no Democrat will ever voter for him as tainted by his being the VP to their hated enemy.
That's an alternate take, also a result of basic deductive reasoning.
Also, unless people express things in their own words, don't presume you know what's in their minds. Be more skeptical.

Ultimately, the president's power, is the power to persuade. Here is a good wiki on the subject about one of the truest books in political science: https://adambrown.info/p/notes/neustadt_presidential_power
there is a 0% chance Pence is going to try to overturn the eleciton on the 6th.
He has his own political future to think of
Gee, I wish I had telepathy too.
just basic deductive reasoning
