The hero was always some roided-up 'alpha' dumbfuck who was quick to violence and not ever depicted as wily and intelligent at the same time; such as it was before, as far back as Homer and the ancient Greeks. Odysseus was a formidable warrior, but what set him apart from the rest, and made him the Hero of the greatest epic ever written was his wile and ingenuity. It was that which always saved him, not his brawn.

Most male protagonists in most media I have been exposed to since childhood was depicted as lower than average intelligence. Why? To keep men from aspiring to be a hero due to their mental fortitude. Men were convinced image was all that mattered, and that is why modern men are so mentally weak for the most part.
