This is partly what happens when you're gullible, and when you believe karma matters. I've been on reddit (stopped last year) since 2007. Around 2009 or so I started noticing that certain people always made it to the top while others didn't (think people making inside jokes, le popular comment you see in every other thread, etc). They got the upvotes, so everyone started going along with the upvotes. Once the admits took control of upvotes, they controlled the narrative and what people would follow. It's absolutely idiotic if you think about how reddit and the belief redditors hold is because of imaginary internet points, but here we are.
So lesson is that no matter what happens, make sure you get your beliefs across and stop caring about imaginary internet points. Especially nowadays where the downvotes are probably from bots.
