You're walking on a trail in the woods and stumble across a random hiker - an interesting fellow - he begins to tell you a story about a haunted cabin down the way, so you decide to head there and check it out yourself. You're not one to back down out of fear, and you're certainly up for adventure when it calls.

After about 30 minutes hiking you see a cabin that is pretty close in description to what the guy told you about, except there are a few details that are off about this place. Some thing is not quite right, he described having two chimneys, but this place doesn't even have one chimney, the color is different, but you know there isn't any other cabin anywhere around here, so this has got to be it; he must have misremembered.

You get inside the cabin and there's another fellow just like yourself who is there for the same reason. You strike up a bit of conversation with him and talk about the haunting, his details are a little different than yours, both of you chalk it up to human mistake and begin hypothesizing about the background of this creepy cabin. After about an hour of discussion, from your different viewpoints, you've synthesized a theory that is pretty compelling, involving a guy name Bob who lived in the cabin (discovered from a note on the counter). You two shoot the shit for a few minutes and then you head out to continue your hike, but, by this point, you're way off track from your original trail, see you decide to get on a different path that's nearby.

After about 30 minutes you come across a sign with some small writing at the bottom. You kneel down and read:

"Look out for Bob. If you're on this trail, look out for Bob. That's all I can say."

You stand back up, slowly, suspiciously looking around. It was fun chatting about the theory, but shit just got real. Despite this, There's nothing you can really do, there was nobody at the cabin and this is just some corroborating bit of evidence that the place might be haunted, but it's not like you're an exorcist. After a moment of deliberation, you decide to continue down the trail, knowing that this trail we'll meet back up with your original trail and you'll end up back at your car only a couple hours later than you had planned, and you'll still be home in time for dinner.

A short while later, before the fork in the trail, there's a slightly wild path veering off to the right of the main trail, and you can see what looks like a red t-shirt draped over a branch, about 150 feet into the path. You decide it's probably worth a look; what if it is a clue related to whatever happened to Bob...

One clue leads to another, and before you know it you're a little lost, and it's a nightfall. You didn't bring a tent or anything to cook, just a Nalgene bottle of water and a granola bar. Now you've gotta try to find your way back to the main trail so you can get back to your car.

Suddenly you come across a note on the ground that wasn't there before. The paper is fresh, the note must be new. You pick it up and start reading:

"Hey Johnny, figured you'd find this note."

Your heart starts rapidly beating.

"We're sorry you had to find out this way. We took all your shit, and by the time you read this everything will be down at the pawnshop where you can buy it back."

The Internet is this trail. Us here, we're on that little path looking at the red T-shirt. If you go far enough down, you'll find some more interesting items, and then I think it links back up to the main trail.

We'll know if too many people wander off the trails at the same time, because the whole trail system will close down at once.
