Nobody who's seriously into electronics security/privacy is under the impression that exploits are needed in the case of 'smartphones' (aka the literal surveillance bugs of the PTB).

It is assumed that 'smartphone' manufacturers are required to give 'law enforcement' back door access to all 'smartphones' and are gagged from talking about it, just as they were with the hard drives.
Not that this is even needed at this point since nearly all 'smartphones' are produced by the same few global-government-friendly corporations.

It is also assumed that rooting/jailbreaking and installing custom firmware accomplishes nothing except reduced corporate spying because there are backdoors built into chips themselves (al la Intel's IME and AMD's PSP/AST).

tldr: 'smartphones' are literally surveillance bugs. That's why they were created. That's why the horded tech needed to create them was trickled to the public. That's why they don't want you to be able to remove the battery.
