it depends on which holy text you read. I know the Quran has a full chapter dedicated to how Muslims are supposed to fight and kill infidels. Deuteronomy has passages explicitly instructing to burn cities to the ground if they engage in idol worship or encourage Jews to worship other gods. Even the New Testament has a section that can be interpreted as Jesus encouraging his followers to take up arms against non-believers (book of Matthew chapter 10).

Religion has a rich and storied history of shunning and genociding non-believers. whether those elements of that religion were written by god, man, or the devil is anyone's guess, but they are there.
