My guess is what is being caught is actually etheric disturbances caused by ionosphere manipulations meant to mess up communications - these are not material objects and can have phase velocities (appearance of movement) faster than speed of light. Chances are the Russians and the US are using HAARP-like antennas to mess with the comms over battlefields.

Because these show up as E/M field disturbances only, they cannot be seen with the eye, as they do not reflect light nor glow, so they can only be detected with scans by antennas. For example, your eye cannot see AM radio. And yet you can use a loop antenna to detect where an AM transmitter antenna is. (This is called 'direction finding'.)
