Parapsycology in USSR was not only hidden in military facilities, it also took some part in popular science journals like "Science and Life" (something like soviet Scientific American, interesting fact - in USSR Scientific American in both original and translated variants was freely available for subscription, I was subscribed to it), sometimes parapsycology even seriously discussed on TV and it definitely was not "debunking superstitions contradicting communist ideology". It was taken seriously in USSR. It even had some ideology basis like "the evolution and development of human abilities on the way to the communist future". Different things from Kirlian photos to telekinetic abilities studied seriously and that studies had some coverage in totally official media.

And that was not at the fall of USSR in late 80-s when numerous freaks and hoaxers crawl out to the light, it was 70-s and early 80-s when USSR look stable and eternal.

After USSR fall, all that things was quickly "debunked", forgotten or marginalised. MSM flooded audience with circus-like astrologists, forecasters, psychics and other crap.
