allows Christianity to continue?

It does not. It silently change Christianity into something weird and cultist, more some kind a bunch of rithuals of worshiping to church and state authorities idols, than soul religion as a way to know the God.

F.e. they change Bible easily to fit their narrative, and so-called Christians continue to believe that crap.

Simplest illustration:

You definitely know that "there is no authority which is not of God, and all authorities are ordered by God."

But this is an absolute lie. If you take Greek, Latin or ancient Russain texts, you will find that really written

"οὐ γὰρ ἔστιν ἐξουσία εἰ μὴ ὑπὸ Θεοῦ, αἱ δὲ οὖσαι ὑπὸ Θεοῦ τεταγμέναι εἰσίν."

"non est enim potestas nisi a Deo guae autem sunt a Deo ordinatae sunt"

"несть бо власть аще не от Бога, сущия же власти от Бога учинены суть"

all that translated directly to "Not an authory if not of God, real autorities are ordered by God". Check it, find literal translations of every word, and you will find that modern Bible is not the real one, but a lying product of "the cult controlling the world".

And so it goes.
