  • the roads in the American Midwest are built on a mile by mile grid. we are talking across 10 or more States here. ( some roads have now disappeared back into the Wilderness but anyway). every hundred or 150 miles these roads have a swerve built into them to realign them with the latitude and longitude of the Earth. a rectangular or square grid imperfectly projected onto a sphere spheroid. the fucking French Engineers.
