Yes I agree, but Social Media was there by the "beautiful and wild" days (Facebook was there in 2006 and Twitter was there in 2009 and they aren't very explicitly oppressive groups during those days), it's UN policies and the 2016 ICANN sellout that weaponize it.

I believe history has demonstrated many times that eventually technological advancements are used by the powerful as a tool of control.

But now we have exclusively technological advancements that have no purpose other than being a tool of control and loosh harvesting, and the last one that wasn't exclusively used for that purpose is the cellphone, which is a decade ago. This is VERY different from a subverted technological advancement e.g. Internet, Television or photography.

For example, cellphones can be used to let you experience the "wild" internet even when you're not seated on the desktop assuming the institutions running the gamut are still honest organizations (which they are anything but now). Patreon subscriptions, "Gacha" and "DLC" in video games and censorship algorithms, on the other hand have zero purpose and zero benefits other than control and confiscating people's sense of self.
