ACLU have never been pro 2A, as far back as I can remember. One of their biggest fair criticisms has always been that they are picking and choosing civil liberties if not defending them all.
I believe they were captured by the US political left over 20 years ago. It has likely been under Soros influence for years, and being used as a political weapon for his own ends in ways that don't align with their stated core values and mission (https://www.aclu.org/press-releases/aclu-awarded-50-million-open-society-foundations-end-mass-incarceration).
Of course freedom of speech is not a principled value the modern left holds, and that is easily observable when they push weasel words like hate speech to shut down or criminalize speech they don't like.
