My thoughts:
Any child abuse will be used to misdirect away from the white-collar crimes that implicate other powerful interests as they throw Hunter under the bus. I am sad for him because he has seen such sorrow already. I don't even care about any photo collection he might have had, but I do care if there is evidence that he abused children himself. The focus needs to remain financial.
Your observations about forum activity are spot on. The only thing I would add is that I usually see that phenomenon after something politically important is already public knowledge and an online narrative is being worked out.
The normalization of pedophilia I usually notice comes in the form of accusing popular celebrities without evidence and trying to downplay (mischaracterize) it as lusting after 17-year-olds.
