A reminder that even Peter, the most beloved disciple of Jesus, was not able to keep his promise that he made him, as we all fall short of the righteousness of Jesus.
You can see it in Daniel 3 too. Where King Nebuchadnezzar made a image of gold, and wanted everyone to worship it. Where Daniels three Jewish friends did not worship the golden image, and was thrown into a furnace of fire as a result. That time the the son of God, that being Christ, came and saved them. That is them denying the mark, as far as I understand.
