If it damaged capillaries in the eyes, one could experience retinal / macular issues and possibly issues with oxygen to the lenses, which can lead to cataracts. No one simple path.

The questions they ask indicate that they have some notion, a model, they are seeking to verify. Something is up with that.

They need to autopsy the victims and preserve samples of brain tissues, if they aren't already doing that. My bet is that they will see both damage at a cellular levels and larger structure damage issues.

Is this merely a mutation or has a second wave of biowarfare been unleashed on the American continent?
