When somebody discovers Gengis Khan's (and his sons) empire but fucking not knows fucking history,so fucking not understands what is he seeing. Actually "Tatars/Tartars" were alternative name used by middle-aged Europeans for Mongols and their Khanates.In fact "Tatars" known by Europeans were only one of the tribes vasalized by great mongol horde - those who invaded Europe.But it is small thing.

Middle aged Europeans called them tatars/tartars because of greek mythical underworld/hell called Tartar. Because they were for them like devils winning battle after battle, wiping out armies send against them, taking whole provinces into ruin and taking people from it to sell as slaves. Their superior mobile tactics and ambushes, fact they were using poison gases in middle-aged battlefield... Their skin and eyes (they were asians after all !),their strange "hellish" language...
