Pay close attention to how Jesus treated her during His ministry. He never gave her any special favors. He never even addressed her as His mother. He respected her and provided for her at the cross by committing her to John's care.
Mary cannot hear your prayers. She is not omnipresent like Jesus is. Praying to Mary is idolatry.
