This is why we celebrate the 25th. This is the "Rebirth" of the King of Kings. Without the sun nothing else matters. Today is the day it signifies that the sun (and spring, and crops) will return again. we won't starve and be left in cold and darkness. The sun is rising again, it will not fall forever, it will rise forever.

Actually the winter solstice being the shortest day of the year happened four days ago on 21 Dec 2022.
But the sun does not appear to start its trek back north til the 25th
