Would it have been helium or hydrogen? If hydrogen, do you think they could have contributed to the great fires? Perhaps why the old cities which had these types of buildings all suffered major fires?
Definitely quickly, but it could have the the proverbial spark to light the flames. You have a bunch of minibombs all docked around the city, and then boom you fly (think 9/11 but with blimps) at night and start a fire which then quickly spreads? Just a speculation
