For example, if you hold a camera close near someone's face with the whole face in the viewfinder, their nose looks bigger than if you stand 100 feet away and use a telephoto lens and crop to hold the whole face. Yet in both cases you might have the overall face be the same size as far as the picture size. The lens focal length affects perspective.
