My speculation is because he was so high profile, was more trouble than he was worth for the corporate fascists and, essentially, hedgefund he had too much control over for their taste, and most importantly because he turned to alternatives to chemo.
The most flagrant offense, and the one he had to be rubbed out over was the last one. F*ck with their cancer profits, or demonstrate that other effective treatments exist than extortion/bankrupting priced poison and radiation "therapies" and you reap the whirlwind :(
