If they dig down one end it could snap because the end being dug out would start to float, the other end being on the sand would cause to much pressure on the haul. It needs to be floated off at the next high tide, that's in a few days. If they can't get if off now they're fucked.
Also you must consider the tide. This part of the canal is effected by it. Every day the peak of high tide is different from the day before. Sometimes lower sometimes high depending on where the moon is in relation to the place on earth. The highest tide is in a few days then it gets less high every day through April. This is why if they can't get it off soon they are fucked.
