25 years isn't that long for an airframe considering parts life and engines. There seem to be plenty of them in storage. So using them as a potential solution to needed com at wings inside the US wouldn't surprise me. In fact it would be also not surprising to see them flying at day light hours to be testing new avionics equipment for upgrades like the B-52's have received.
