I know that Twitter sometimes “unverifies” someone (they did it to Farrakhan after he tweeted something to controversial even for them, but they didn’t ban him outright), but internet archives make it too easy to look back and see that she was never verified, and Swalwell probably had his staff add the checkmark to make the exchange seem more credible.
