My question about flat earth: so fucking what?

If the conspiracy is bullshit, why do some cling to it so tightly?

If the conspiracy is true, what is the point in devoting the astronomical amount of resources needed to cover it up?

Other conspiracy theories have stakes. Illuminati and Reptile Overlords raises questions about our freedom. Pizzagate was all about protecting our children. Bush Did 9/11 potentially exposes a down right evil faction of the US government.

But Flat Earth? Nothing. It's just a fun fact that apparently the entire world spends tons of resources covering up for shits and giggles.
