There is so much evidence pointing to a cyclical catastrophe, governed in some way by the Heavens. Just to drop a few links and hopefully produce some conversation:

-Velikovsky and specifically his works Earth in Upheaval and Worlds in Collision

-The “Electric Universe” group and their various works

-And Graham Hancock and his work searching for traces of the previous civilization to endure this upheaval

I think this is one of if not the greatest sources of conspiracy. It seems obvious to me that this information was preserved in the form of various “mystery schools” and symbolic representations (which today we call myths or religions or secret societies depending on various conditions). A great catastrophe struck an advanced civilization, forcing them to spread out and integrate with “primitives” who were far better suited for survival in this new post-catastrophe world. These remnants likely traded on their (seemingly) impossible knowledge - becoming the first in traditions of initiated “Wise Men” which likely persist to this day, for good and for ill.
