You raise good points, but im talking about things like mental archetypes - for example, I think all that stuff about The Hero’s Journey isn’t just being imposed on us by them, but it is encoded into us deep down somehow. I agree with you about all the “physical symbols” (like the black cube, the hexagon/hexagram, 666, etc etc) - those are in a sense arbitrary and being imposed on us. But what do you think about the mental symbols? The alchemical works as the dissolution and reformation of ego, the hero’s journey, the “sky-father/earth-mother” idea that shows up everywhere, the active-masculine-yang / passive-feminine-yin dichotomy that shows up everywhere, the idea of “as above so below”, that our world is an imperfect mirror of a divine world, and other things along those lines? Do you also see those as foisted upon us?
