It's likely that this ritual, or at least that part of it, was made up. Just from a mathematical perspective, if an ovulating woman is going to 100% get pregnant from sex (which is already charitable) you have a 5/28 chance of her getting pregnant based on a normal reproductive cycle. And again this is a high ball number. How many virgins did these priests have? How many times were they able to have sex in that one day? Or is this just fearmongering propaganda designed to sound as grotesque as possible in order to provoke an emotional reaction?
