systematic to bring down the church

Yes

Like what are the numbers here.. it sure seems like it's very widespread

Yes, because they are specifically targeting the Catholics church with lawfare and financial/sex scandals. All the Hasidic Jewish sex scandals, the Levi's kidnapping children's, the Mormons, the Bible school Baptists, Scientology, and general Protestant church's are generally unreported and don't get media coverage.

Abuse happens just as much, if not more, in these other groups but the media isn't targeting them. And there have been no real widespread investigations.

Abuse tends to happens in 2 situations 1) within friends and family. I have several friends who were abused, went to various religious schools, they were sexually abused by friends or family. People known to them, and they couldn't stop it or it would upset the whole family. 2nd situation is institutionally. The nature of some institutions added to the cultural understanding of the rights of children/women, sex, etc can lead to institutional abuse. The German govt is even more guilty that the catholic church iirc they had weird maturation classes in the 70s etc.

There's not even any chance to hang out and get molested. Maybe if you're in some place where the kid goes to "school" where these priests are running it. Like I guess some catholic school. Then you'd have more chances for this stuff to happen.

Yes, more at home or at friends, so maybe at boarding schools too.
