It's the TVs that have gotten worse. Speakers are at the back on most modern Flatscreens. Also it's the ratio, Sound FX too Audio that has also gotten worse.

There are a bunch of tune ups for this, but there's the same problem inside of cinemas. I have received refunds due to this. Music/Sound Fx were far too loud, and incomparable with the dialogue.

On many High-end flatscreens they have tunners where it automatically adjusts the levels and ratios for this specific problem. Although despite of this it can still be problematic, buying 5.1 subwoofer surround speakers doesn't adjust those levels.

Those levels are set by the distributors, they aren't set right so often, frequently you find yourself moving the volume up and down, where it's louder with FX quiet with audio.

If you think about the logical reason for this, many producers have added the FX ontop of their productions. It causes contrast.
