Not sure if you are familiar with Dutton's work the genius famine but according to him you will most likely end up with a slightly improved NPC, but he himself is mostly a normie so don't take it as gospel.

Edit: to clarify, while consciousness is not intelligence per se and I believe in the existence of the soul; one cannot deny the fact that dim witted people are hardly conscious and that they also lack abstract thinking abilities which means genetics must play a part.
