The mandans (Dakotas) Where are the most civilized tribes Louis and Clark encountered on their journeys across North America. The they were the only ones who had long houses/structures vs teepees, tilled the land, and their villages had the look of Celtics or Viking configurations. Appearance wise they had variations of of light skin, light eyes, and light hair included in their tribe. They were also by far the best looking according to Lewis and Clark, a handsome people, and further along in civilization and agriculture than the other tribes they encountered. It is believed that they are descendants of either Vikings or Celtic people who explored the continent centuries before. The entire tribe was wiped out by smallpox. :(((
