Ursa MAJOR's orientation in the sky tells us the date, and mapping the solstices (like in the picture above) gets us something like symbol that has appeared in nearly every culture north of the equator.

And if those symbols were falsely attributed to the corresponding religions, as I suspect, this is useful knowledge too, wouldn't you agree?
