According to the original study notes for Revelation 20 written by Reformer Franciscus Junius (which were standard in the 1608 edition), the "thousand years" was a literal, historical era that had already concluded:
The Starting Point (36 AD): The notes state that
the binding of Satan began roughly 36 years after
the Passion of Christ. This was interpreted as the
period when the Gospel successfully spread to the
Gentiles and the early Christian Church flourished
despite Roman persecution.
The Millennium (36 AD - 1036 AD): The 1,000
years of Christ's reign was viewed as a spiritual
era where the true Church grew and Satan was
legally restrained from entirely deceiving or
destroying the nations.
Thankfully, we can be certain Jesus has not returned. There will be no mistaking it when He does. We can be certain that whoever wrote that in the Geneva Bible was a false prophet and/or teacher.
“Then if any man tells you, ‘Behold, here is the Christ!’ or, ‘There!’ don’t believe it. For false christs and false prophets will arise, and they will show great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the chosen ones. “Behold, I have told you beforehand. “If therefore they tell you, ‘Behold, he is in the wilderness,’ don’t go out; or ‘Behold, he is in the inner rooms,’ don’t believe it.
