Rule 1 is a good rule. Engagement being down because we don't attack people is what seems immature, to me, and I'm not convinced it's the reason things are down (engagement is down site wide, not just here). How does attacking people and not their arguments gain anything?
Overly strict enforcement has ended bants. We should all be mature adults here with reasonably thick skin, yet the policy is enforced as if we're children. It's stifling.
I'd also like to be reminding about the original compromise that there can be free for all posts where rule 1 is suspended.
It's stifling to not call people names or attack their person and not their argument?
There's a difference between a bit of banter and straight up attacking someone.
I have no problem bantering without calling people names.
