They already do that. This is because they've gobbled up all of the data that will be voluntarily given up already. That means it's time to give the rest of the population a reason to give up theirs. I lost my fb account because they realized my name was fake and demanded a picture of my birth certificate proving it was the fake name. This was like 15+ years ago lol. They have patents for keeping profiles active after they've been abandoned for any reason including death. This means they already have profiles for that period of time and beyond. The reason this blew up was because it includes posting on the dead person's behalf to make it seem like a real active user.
Facebook wanted my picture to verify the account because I had my dog as the profile picture. I haven't been able to go to that site for about 12 years. I know a lot of people that abandoned Facebook

Shutting down open source software so you have to use the corporate controlled stuff.
And thus build comprehensive databases to further tighten their grip
