UK never was a "free country" or "democracy". It always was a totalitarian monarchy where officially only specific family is allowed to rule and any attempt to override its rule or change a ruler is a severe crime.

All that parliament and ministers circus is just for fascade. They all, without exception serve only royal family by law.
