Yes, it is important to have unity. The problem I've seen where I live is that sin is running rampant in the churches. It is not possible to be in unity with those who are in enmity with God. I believe we are living in these days:

Let no one deceive you in any way. For it will not be unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of destruction. (2 Thessalonians 2:3)

For the time will come when they will not listen to the sound doctrine, but having itching ears, will heap up for themselves teachers after their own lusts, and will turn away their ears from the truth, and turn away to fables. (2 Timothy 4:3-4)
