Yes, they can. They are already practically doing that. It's pretty obvious he's playing shell games by selling Powerwalls to XAI.
But the difference was, Amazon was a huge prospect in a market that would change the world. Tesla is an outcompeted joke with a pedophile in charge.

Amazon had the infrastructure to actually run e-commerce successfully. People were investing based on their belief of what it could grow into.
When they survived the dotcom bubble burst, this expectation solidified.
