Is there an alternative? Everybody dies, including civilizations. Our problem is we failed to give birth to our replacements so, when we go this time, it's all over.
Why wouldn't there be an alternative? When has apocalypse been the only possible future in previous generations? If you think things are different so that there's no hope this time then you've been successfully demoralized.

The only alternative I know is not to comply. It does seem like the end, I don't see a way out, pandora's box type stuff.
