Obviously he didn’t want this but do you think he was kidnapped against his will or do you think he was given certain guarantees to be taken captive?

There was no EMP. Something much simpler than that. Venezuelan army was ordered to stand down. According to Lieutenant Colonel Edgar Alejandro Lugo Pereira, a member of the active reserves, the Venezuelan army could have repelled the US attack, but chose not to, fearing a more serious invasion.
Pereira said in a conversation with RIA NewsCaracas Venezuela chose to negotiate rather than fight. And the Venezuelan government decided not to respond to the invasion.
